The Ceylinco Diabetes Centre has launched a comprehensive diabetes package and will conduct several promotions this November for the benefit of visitors in recognition of World Diabetes Day and Diabetes Month.

The special diabetes package comprises of a Diabetes Risk Assessment, a complete physical examination with height and weight check and computation of Body Mass Index (BMI), a complete foot examination, Fasting Plasma Glucose test, HbA1C test, lipid profile (including total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL, LDL, VLDL tests), urine test for Micro Albumin and eye consultation.

The package also includes a session with a diabetic educator who would provide visitors with expert guidance on how to avoid or delay the onset of the disease and maintain a healthy life style with regular exercise and diet.

The special package is priced at Rs. 3500/= per person and appointments can be obtained by telephone.

Visitors who obtain this special diabetes package during November are eligible to win one of 25 Blood Glucose Monitors which are used to test the concentration of glucose in the blood, the Centre said.

Each visitor will also receive a special diabetes gift pack containing snacks, vitamins, footcare cream and a hand towel.

"We have launched this special initiative as part of the Centre’s commitment to battle against the spread of Diabetes in Sri Lanka," the Senior Medical Officer at the Ceylinco Diabetes Centre Dr. Charuky Weerasuriya said. "We encourage people to gain a better understanding of diabetes because it is the fastest growing health problem in Sri Lanka and many people who have the disease don’t even know they are afflicted with it."

Early detection and proper control of diabetes can delay or prevent some of the worst consequences of the disease such as blindness, kidney damage, cardiovascular disease and lower-limb amputations, she said.
