USAID supports Career day for youth in the East

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is holding a career day in Trincomalee to provide job-oriented training and internship opportunities for youth in the Eastern Province. The career day called "Connect to Your Future", will be held on November 12, 2009, at the Hindu Cultural Hall on Inner Harbor Road, Trincomalee. Youth from all communities are invited to register and attend the event.

More than 20 leading private sector companies from the hotel, supermarket, information and communication technology (ICT), boat building and construction industries will participate. The career day is expected to generate more than 400 job-oriented training and internship opportunities for young men and women.

Participating private sector companies will select suitable candidates based on knowledge, skills and attitude for relevant training and internships. Shortly after the event, successful candidates will be notified of their selection.

USAID through its project called Connecting Regional Economies (USAID/CORE), is focusing on improving livelihoods and business opportunities in the East. This project supports training opportunities to prepare young people for good job opportunities. Interested participants from all communities are encouraged to register in advance. Registration forms can be obtained at the USAID/CORE office at 188/A, Lower Road Orr’s Hill, Trincomalee or on the website at www.core.lk.

This project is part of the U.S government’s strategy to increase human and economic security in the East. USAID has provided $13.5 million over three years for economic growth activities in Eastern, North Central and Uva Provinces.
