‘Glory of Medical Laboratory Technology’ exhibition

The College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (CMLTs) will commemorate its golden jubilee by holding an exhibition titled ‘Glory of Medical Laboratory Technology,’ from December 3rd to 5th. President of the Joint Council of Professions Supplementary to Medicine, Ravi Kumudesh said yesterday (10) the main aim of holding the exhibition would be to depict the evolution of their profession to the country.

The exhibition would highlight the history of the medical laboratory technology (MLT). It would show the service rendered in the past, its present status and the future development. There would also be demonstrations of testing different samples carried out for the diagnosis of tuberculosis, sexually transmitted diseases, swine flu (new influenza A (H1N1), dengue and several other diseases, he said.

They would also be able to witness how tests are carried out when there was a question regarding paternal identity. The public would also be given an opportunity to witness the tests carried out for pathological diagnosis.

Parallel to this, the CMLTs would also conduct a Science and Technology programme for G.C.E. Ordinary level students. It would also felicitate those who had rendered a service to medical laboratory technology in the past, Kumudesh said.

The CMLT has invited all MLTs in the SAARC region to participate in the 50th year celebrations. "They are those who have been trained locally and are rendering services in the region," he said adding that Sri Lanka was once recognized for its expertise in the field of Medical laboratory technology.
