NWP Ministry suspends payment of difficult areas allowance to teachers
Payment of the difficult areas allowance, to government school teachers and principals in the Kuliyapitiya educational zone, has been suspended.
Principals and teachers of remote schools in the area expressed disappointment over this cut in their allowance. Those who had to travel long distances to schools where transport facilities are lacking feel the pinch of this action more.
The Bingiriya School Teachers’ Association has made representations to the Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha and Chief Minister Athula Wijesinghe, seeking the early restoration of the allowance considering the dedicated service rendered by them.
More than 4,500 school teachers in the Bingiriya, Panduwasnuwara and Kuliyapitiya electorates are affected by the sudden suspension of the difficult areas allowance.
