We are having an enormous
problem in our state universities mainly due to politically motivated
student unions and students who have had unpleasant childhood
experiences and are as a result, trying to take revenge from others.
This has resulted in some student’s behaving in manner that is not
expected of an intelligent university student. Most of these students
who enter university want to secure suitable employment after completing
their studies.Employers who are interested in taking them in, are
keen to know whether these graduates have the correct attitude. However
we do not have a proper system to verify this. When taking a school
leaver into employment, it is necessary that they obtain a character
certificate from the Principal of the school. But in the case of
university students, there is no such system to check their suitability
for employment. If we could introduce a system whereby confidential
records are maintained in universities in respect of each student, and
prospective employers could refer to the authorities and obtain a
confidential opinion with regard to a particular student, students would
be more careful with regard to their behaviour.
