Quebec protesters disrupt visit by Prince Charles

MONTREAL (AP) - About 200 protesters are disputing a visit by Prince Charles to Canada’s French-speaking province of Quebec.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall arrived in Montreal on Tuesday as part of an 11-day visit to Canada.

Quebec separatists pelted soldiers at a Montreal regiment with eggs.

The protest delayed the prince’s scheduled arrival. Some protesters sat in the street chanting as members of the police riot squad looked on. Charles was scheduled to participate in a ceremony to present new colours to the regiment.

Queen Elizabeth II is the symbolic head of state in Canada, a member of the British Commonwealth of former colonies. Canadians are generally indifferent to the monarchy.
