Youth Boxing Championships
Pilimatalawa and Kingswood overall champs

The Youth Boxing Championship, which was held last Monday at Veyangoda Central College, Veyangoda, witnessed the participation of a large number of schools boxers.

Pilimatalawa Vidyalaya, Kandy, won the Dian Gomes Challenge Trophy in the 13-14 age group and Kingswood College, Kandy, won the first Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya Challenge Trophy, in the 17-18 age group.

D. N. K. Perera of St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy, won the Lt. Bantam Weight 36-38 KGS event and the Best Boxer’s award as well.

M. A. T. H. Jayathissa of Veyangoda Central College won the Best Boxer’s award in the women’s category.

Meanwhile, in the first Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya Challenge Trophy competition, A. C. Chandrasiri Vidyarathana won the Best Boxer’s award, while R. M. C. C. Rajaguru of Viharamahadevi College won the Best Girls’ Boxer’s award.

In the women’s overall category, Sariputhra Vidyalaya, Ahangama and Swarnajothi Vidyalaya, Kandy collected 21 points each in the Dian Gomes Challenge Trophy competition, but Sariputhra Vidyalaya won the overall championship as they won more gold medals than Swaranajothi.

The Girls’ Overall Challenge trophy in the Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya Challenge Trophy competition was shared between three teams; Viharmahadevi Vidyalaya, Kandy, Seevali Central, Ratnapura and Royal College, Polonnaruwa.
