

Securing a major victory over a premier side, Navy clinched the Defence Services Football Championship on November 12.
They stunned the formidable Air Force team, who are one of the semi finalists in the Premier League soccer tournament, 5-4, in a keenly fought penalty shoot-out in the final, played at Police Park, Colombo.
At half time, the score was nil all.
In the second half, Air Force went ahead when Dilshan Fernando found the net. Navy equalized through Thivanka Nandasiri.
At the end of full time, it was one all, which resulted in the penalty shoot-out.
Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, who holds this year’s Chairmanship of the Defence Services Sports Board, was also present at the grounds to witness the match, accompanied by several senior Naval officers.
At the conclusion of the game, the Navy chief congratulated members of both teams for an excellent display of their sporting skills and for a match played in the true spirit of the game, promoting camaraderie between the two sister forces.
