National handicrafts exhibition organized

Under the patronage of the Rural Industries and Self-employment Promotion Ministry, the National Crafts Council (NCC) has organized an annual National Handicrafts Exhibition commencing November 26 to 29 at BMICH.

NCC Development Assistant Ms. Geethani Weeratunge told The Island Financial Review that the exhibition would consist of handicrafts creations which had won awards representing nine provinces in Sri Lanka. Among handicrafts creations, two handicrafts creations had been selected to be awarded Swarna Award and National Award.

She added that all winners of handicrafts exhibition would receive financial rewards and awards. Handicrafts artistes who had received Swarna Awards would get Rs.50,000, Rajitha Awards Rs. 10,000, first National Award Rs.25,000, second National Award Rs.15,000 and third National Award Rs.10,000. In addition, the NCC had organized a foreign educational tour for Rajitha and Swarna Award winners.

Apart from the handicrafts exhibition, the Lanka Industrial Development Board has organized an exhibition of products made by the small and medium scale industrialists. There will be around 200 trade stalls at the exhibition and a large Salpila will sell goods commencing 10.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m.
