

Geocycle pre-processing facility
Rs. 200 mn investment to tackle industrial waste
With an investment of Rs. 200 million a pre-processing facility with state-of-the-art technology in waste management, commenced operations yesterday at the Katunayake Export Processing Zone.
This pre-processing facility has the capacity to cater to a large volume of industrial waste in an environmentally friendly manner and is handled by Geocycle, a waste management organization, a unit of Holcim (Lanka) Limited.
After opening the facility, Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said it would not only provide a total solution to the solid waste generated in the Katunayake Export Zone, but also, many industries around Colombo and suburbs would receive the best available services within the country to dispose their waste in an environmentally friendly manner.
Holcim (Lanka) Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Stefan said that 150 families or 400 persons who depend on the secondary materials would be given the opportunity to take whatever they wanted.
