Swine fever suspected for patients’ deaths

Kandy - Health authorities in Kandy suspect the cause of death of five patients, who were treated at Kandy and Peradeniya General Hospitals for fever, to be Swine Fever Influenza H1N1.

Among the five victims were two expectant mothers.

However, the exact cause of deaths were to be established on the report of the MRI, sources said.

Meanwhile, a team of concerned doctors of the Kandy General Hospital, who discussed current situation of Swine fever in and around Kandy, have decided to propose the temporary closure of schools in the Kandy district since children are vulnerable to the fever, sources disclosed.

The decision is to be forwarded to the Chief Minister.
