Moratuwa to host international after 17 years
Sri Lanka Cricket will host an international match after a lapse of 17 years, at the Moratuwa Stadium, on December 5.
The Under-19 Tri-nation one day series between Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh is scheduled to get underway on November 29, with the first encounter scheduled to be played at the newly constructed stadium at Pallekela, in Kandy.
The city of Moratuwa is home to many cricketers who have represented Sri Lanka. Moratuwa draws massive crowds for any form of cricket.
The Sri Lanka Under-19 squad is scheduled to take part in the World Cup in New Zealand in January 2010. The young hopefuls have a busy schedule ahead of them, very similar to that of the National team who are currently touring India.
The Tri-nation Under-19 series has been spread to rural districts as per the directive of Sri Lanka Cricket chairman, D. S. De Silva and his committee, who insist that cricket must reach every nook and corner of the island.
Sri Lanka U-19 match schedule:
29th November to 8th December – Tri-nation one day series to be played in Pallekela, Moratuwa, Dambulla and Colombo.
20th December to 6 January – Tri-nation one day series in South Africa (India, South Africa, Sri Lanka)
9th January to 30th January – Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand.
