Twin cager titles for Gateway Colombo

Gateway College, Colombo, emerged champions at the recently concluded Inter-International Schools Under-13 Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball Tournaments, organized by the Colombo International School (Colombo). Thus, the school continues its winning spree by winning five out of six championships that have been held within the last two months. They have so far won the Under-17 (Boys’ and Girls’) and the Under-15 Boys’ as well.

In the Under-13 Boys’ tournament, Gateway beat Elizabeth Moir School 57-17 in the quarter final and reached the final by beating Asian International, 46-26.

The final of the Under-13 Boys’ tournament which was against CIS, Colombo, was dominated by Gateway, who won, 43-16. Melantha Janz was without doubt the leader of the pack, scoring 30 points. Melantha was adjudged the Most Valuable Player and Ruchie Padmawansa, the Best Defensive Player.

In the Under-13 Girls’ tournament, Gateway beat Asian International, 38-4 and Lyceum International, Wattala, 43-10 in the quarter final and semi final respectively.

The Under-13 Girls’ final was also against CIS, Colombo which was a close game where Gateway won 23-13. Most Valuable Player, Shenuka Wakkumbura and Best Offensive Player, Osuri Ariyakumara were mainly instrumental in getting the job done.
