Despite losing the morning session’s play due to wet ground conditions, Dharmapala College recorded a ten wicket victory over Mahanama College as spinners impressed with good performances in their Inter School Under-19 two day tournament match which ended at Katunayake yesterday.
Leg spin-off spin combination of Hasitha Nirmal and Dilrukshan Jayasundara shared nine wickets between them to restrict Mahanama to 117 runs after a top score of 83 from Rasitha Gamage helped them post 255 runs. That left them with a meager target of 17 runs to score in 22 overs. And Dharmapala openers remained unbeaten to reach the target in five overs.
Nirmal with a five wicket haul in the second innings and Jayasundara with four wickets ended with match bags of seven wickets each.
It was Dharmapala College’s second outright victory in the Division I tournament and it cemented their place as the leading team in Group ‘D’.
