Dallas refutes UNPclaim that govt. ill treating Gen. Fonseka
Transport Minister Dallas Alahaperuma refuted a statement made by UNP deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya on the Government’s failure to mete out proper treatment to General Sarath Fonseka. "I was disappointed to hear such a statement," he said.
Minister Alahaperuma told The Island that he regretted that UNP Deputy leader had used the name of Ananda College, Colombo in connection with a political issue. "It was unbecoming of a person of his calibre. He should not have dragged Ananda College into this matter and if he had done so mistakenly, he should withdraw it forthwith," the Minister said.
The Mahinda Rajapaksa Government did not treat any war hero shabbily. It would not descend to the level of ill treat ing any person irrespective of his or her political affiliations, he said.
General Sarath Fonseka and Wasantha Karannagoda fought tooth and nail to defeat the enemies of the country, while UNP stalwarts were saying that the security personnel were heading towards Medawachchiya instead of Kilinochchiya and Pamankada instead of Alimankada, he said.
Sri Lanka’s biggest betrayal was when the Leader of the Opposition Ranil Wickremasinghe was in power between 2001 to 2004. The Millenium City activities were exposed by him revealing the names of persons engaged in Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol. He gave the LTTE the monopoly of ruling one third of Sri Lanka and two third of its coastline, while Karu Jayasuriya had ignored it all.
When UNP stalwarts criticized General Sarath Fonseka saying that he was not fit to be an Army Commander and not even suitable to hold the post of the head of the Salvation Army, he was silent, the Minister said.
