Japan relaxes travel restrictions to Sri Lanka

Japan has relaxed the travel restrictions imposed on its citizens visiting Sri Lanka.

The government of Japan issued a statement on November 11, detailing how its citizens should act when visiting different parts of Sri Lanka.

It has advised Japanese nationals to be on the alert to the security situation and take necessary precautions when visiting the Eastern province. The restriction has been revised to the level of ‘Travel Caution’ from the level of ‘Recommendation to consider whether or not to travel’.

With regard to Northern Province the earlier warning was "Recommendation to defer all travel". it has been brought down to the level of ‘Recommendation to consider whether or not to travel."

The areas of the Northern Province include Vauniya and Mannar towns, the stretch of A9 Road from Irattaperiyakulam to Vavuniya, A 14 Road from Madawachchiya to Talaimannar and A30 Road from Peraiyaniankulam to Vavuniya.
