

Australian Government funds Neuro-Trauma Centre
The Australian Government has allocated four hundred million rupees for the new Neuro-trauma unit being constructed at the Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. The Unit would be called the Victoria –Sri Lanka Emergency Neuro-Trauma Centre.
The spokesman for the Health Ministry said yesterday (19) that the team of Austrailians who arrived in Sri Lanka included three parliamentarians who were here to inspect the new Unit which is coming up at the Karaitiya Hospital.
The Health Minister impressed upon the group of Australians that under Sri Lanka’s free Health system the government provided medication and health facilities from minor surgeries and infections to major health issues and that all health workers and professionals in the field are given training.
The Austrian Government also pledged funds for five other development projects in the country. - DJ
