

Record turnover on CSE this year
The CSE on Friday topped the highest ever turnover recorded in any one year posting an year to-date turnover of Rs. 115.2 billion on Oct. 20. The previous record was Rs. 114.6 billion in the year 2005, Ms. Surekha Sellahewa, the CEO of the CSE said.
The average daily turnover is currently Rs. 538.5 million, surpassing the previous high of Rs. 481.5 million for the year 2005, a news release from the CSE said.
Both price indices of the CSE have recorded an exceptional growth for this year. The All Share Price Index (ASPI) reached 3,139.7 on Oct. 13, the highest reached by the index with Reuters ranking the Colombo bourse as the best performing stock market in the world for the year on Oct. 5, 2009.
The growth of the ASPI for the year to Friday was 95% with the market closing with a post-war growth of 54% (mid May 2009 to date). The Milanka Price Index (MPI) has also recorded a growth of 104.3% for the year to date, CSE data revealed.
The market capitalization of the CSE crossed the one trillion level and reached Rs. 1,008.5 billion on Oct. 13, the highest in CSE history. At the end of Friday’s trading, the market capitalization stood at Rs. 945.44 billion.
