Seva Vanitha entertains visitors

The Chairperson Nelun Goonetileke and the committee members of the Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit held a coffee morning in honour of visiting Air Force First Lady Farzana Qamar, the spouse of Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, the Chief of the Pakistan Air Force. This morning event held at the Ivy Room of the Cinnamon Grand Hotel was an entertaining enterprise with cultural and dance items including a western dance item performed by members of the Air Force, which also brought on stage a mini show of the styles worn by the brides of Sri Lanka.

It was also an occasion for the wives of the staff members to bring forth their sense of style. Led by Nelum who is always dressed with decorum befitting her, position and individual charm, wore a Kandyan saree in a pleasing pink silk woven with subtle gold. Her counterpart Farzana had her salwar kameez outfit in lovely shade of apple green worked in pale gold. The dupatta too was bordered in gold. She made a youthful and pretty picture, inspite of the fact that she is a mother of three children. Also there to great her and partake of the event was the wife of the High Commissioner of Pakistan Begum in a kameez chikan embroidered in white with the dupatta too in the same light biege so right for a morning.

Most of the other women favoured the saree which is as it should be. Among them were Indula Dias in a shot olive green saree which had a kaliedescope of colour including pink, turquoise and a lighter tone of olive on the pleats and pallu. A saree in shades of aquamarine lilac and a suggestion of white Piyumali Wickremaratne wore too was the ideal choice for morning wear.

All in all it was an insight into the work of the Seva Vanitha Unit and into the talents of the many members, both men and women attached to this wing of the armed services.
