Sri Lankans lose in quarter-finals

Sri Lanka hopefuls Upali Rajakaruna and Dissanayake Mudiyanselage Gamini lost in the quarter-finals of the Men’s Singles main draw in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) organised Malaysia Open Wheelchair Tennis Tournament held at the Jalan Duta tennis courts in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (21).

The Sri Lanka Tennis Association provided the results of the Malaysia Open on Saturday, quoting the Sri Lanka team manager in Kuala Lumpur, Vipul Perera.

The Malaysia Open, an ITF Futures Series knockout tournament, is an Asia-Oceania Zone USD 5,000 prize money event. Today is the final day of the competition.

The three-member Sri Lanka team, also comprising A.B. Alagoda, a fresher, is to take part in the subsequent Thailand Open which is to be held from Nov. 25 to 27.

Men’s Singles Main Draw (Quarter-finals)

D.M. Gamini lost to Suthi Khlongrua of Thailand 2-6, 2-6

U. Rajakaruna lost to Supparat Ponimingmad of Thailand 1-6, 3-6

Men’s Doubles (Main Draw) (Quarter-finals)

D.M. Gamini & U. Rajakaruna lost to Suthi Khlonggrua & Sumrerng Kruanama of Thailand 3-6, 2-6

A.B. Alagoda & Heru ZainDduin of India lost to Chen Chun Chieh & Kuo Wen Shaeng of Chinese Taipei 1-6, 2-6.
