St. Benedict’s clinch Under-19 football title
St. Benedict’s College beat Zahira College 2-0 in the final to clinch this year’s Inter-school Under-19 Milo Football Tournament title at CR&FC Grounds, Colombo, recently.
The two schools were engaged in a final match that was conducted in good sporting spirit. The two schools that are well known for their soccer prowess qualified to the final from an 18-schools first round.
Bens led 1-0 at half time.
Nissanka Madusanka and Harshana Dilshan scored the two goals for the Bens in the 20th and 60th minutes of the match respectively.
The chief guests of the final were Mohamed Hamza of Nestle Lanka Ltd., the main sponsors of the tournament, Rev. Br. Granville Fernando, President of the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association (SLSFA), Milroy Perera, Sec., SLSFA, H. Silvera, President of the Sri Lanka Football Association, and Bandula Egodage of Nestle.
