Colombo Dockyard busy with OSV’s and dredger repairs

Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) has been recently been busy with repairs on specialised Dredgers, Offshore Support vessels (OSV) and general cargo vessels.

Currently three sophisticated dredgers, DCI Dredge XVII and DCI Dredge VI owned by Dredging Corporation of India and Dredge Costa Blanca owned by Van Oord, Holland and Offshore Support vessels SCI -01 owned by Shipping Corporation of India are undergoing repairs at the yard facility. The Offshore support vessels Malaviya 10 owned by Great Offshore, India & Bourbon Theytis owned by Bourbon Offshore, France were completed after major drydocking and lay up repairs earlier in November.

The yard is also busy with repairs to MV. Gati –Zipp owned by Gati Coast to Coast, India and MV.Bonthi II owned by State Trading Organisation Maldives.

The shipyard’s three drydocks dedicated for ship repairs have been fully utilised catering to this wide spectrum of callers. The largest 125,000 DWT drydock has been going for multiple drydocking to meet with the market demands and changing trends; OSV’s have been accommodated along with Dredgers and General Cargo vessels in this once Tanker dominated drydock.

The yards production teams have taken up the challenge of attending to the wide scope of work on these sophisticated dredgers and OSV’s simultaneously, meeting the owners and classification society requirements successfully.

On the shipbuilding sector ship yard is getting ready to deliver MV. Arabian Sea, 250 passenger vessel; to be by the end of the year is also a hive of activity, with work moving at full steam, while the keel was laid to kick off the construction work on the 4th Multi Purpose Supply Vessel for Greatship, India earlier in the month.

Colombo Dockyard has been a versatile player serving the world’s reputed owners: Dredger owners Van Oord, Boskarlis Bv, Holland, Dredging International, Belgium, DCI, India and Hyundai, Korea. Offshore Support Vessel owners Bourbon Offshore-France, Tidewater-USA, SBS Marine-UK, Shipping Corporation of India, and Greatship-India in the recent past.
