An irate former Western Province Chief Minister said that the police blocked him though his supporters were allowed to attend.
He said that there was a move to oust him from the Kalutara district at the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
Gunatilleke recently quit the National Freedom Front (NFF) following a dispute with its leader Wimal Weerawansa. Political sources said that the former JVPer was planning to contest the Kalutara district on the UPFA ticket at the general elections.
Cooray said that a section of the SLFP was trying to force him out of politics in the wake of him losing the Chief Ministerial post to Prasanna Ranatunga in the WPC.
Cooray said that he would not succumb to the likes of Gunatilleke, but would strive to retain his position in the district. He said that he had photographic evidence of the police blocking his path and forcing him to leave the premises.
