Highlighting unique water ecosoystems

Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC, the marketer of Caltex, Havoline and Delo branded lubricants in Sri Lanka, received special commendation from Minister Chamal Rajapakse - Minister of Ports & Aviation and Irrigation Management, for its involvement in the national campaign titled ‘Water & Life’.

‘Water & Life’ is the first dedicated awareness building campaign designed to educate all citizens on the importance of preserving Sri Lanka’s National hydro - cultural heritage.

Jointly presented by Chevron and Kalasoori Sathischandra Edirisinghe’s Mihindu Cultural Foundation, the exhibition inauguration took place at the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress in Colombo. Over 74 exhibits were showcased depicting Sri Lanka’s extraordinary aquatic ecosystem.

The ‘Water & Life’ exhibition series was birthed to highlight the critical issue of depleting water resources and inadequate preservation systems for this vital natural resource. Recognizing the fact that the lack of water as a resource will spell doom to agro based communities, Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC stepped forward as sponsor for this national project to safeguard the livelihood of farming communities.

"Sri Lanka is a nation that depends on agriculture as the main source of livelihood. Therefore it is every citizen’s responsibility to protect and preserve all natural water resources in the island" commented Kishu Gomes, Managing Director & CEO of Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC.

"We take pride in being the first Corporate Citizen from the private sector to come forward to facilitate this landmark event in the history of Sri Lanka. Living in a day and age where this vital natural resource is unprotected, polluted and scarce, we decided to embark on this national programme to address this critical issue which will determine the well-being and sustenance of our future generation which is vital to the socio-economic growth of the country" he continued.

Several locations around the country have been identified to conduct the exhibition next year.

Chevron has always had an unstinted passion towards community development. For several years, Chevron has partnered in numerous rural & community development initiatives, practiced as a concerted strategy to uplift, support and promote a better tomorrow for all its valuable stakeholders.
