

Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka and the Chambers of the North and East praised President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Senior Advisor to President Basil Rajapaksa , Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa , Armed Forces and Police for working tirelessly towards speedy opening of A9 for goods transportation and civilian travel.
Kosala Wickramanayake President of FCCISL was of the view that chamber plea has been answered and that this important move, awaited by all citizens of the country could be considered as another important step towards economic rehabilitation of the Northern and Eastern Provinces. This would fast track the task of brining normalcy to the regions and the rapid movement of goods would lead to normal North/South trade which existed decades ago. A fair reduction in the overall prices of essential goods also could be anticipated.
He added that the free civilian movement from Colombo / Jaffna / Colombo would eventually bring back the passenger transportation services converting it to be a regular service as in other parts of the country, in a short period of time.
Wickramanayake said that FCCISL is already in the process of negotiating with donors for possible financial assistance to extend its cooperation to the government in the economic rehabilitation and social reintegration process. He was of the view that the regional chambers would now could play an important role in trade facilitation and market linkages.
