

Tissainayagam’s bail application to be supported in Court on Nov. 25
The application for bail filed by J. S. Tissainayagam is to be supported in the Court of Appeal on November 25, 2009.
The appellant had applied for bail on the grounds that he had sometime back undergone eye surgery and needed specialised medical care. Hence, he should be released on bail to attend to his medical needs.
Tissainayagam is at present serving a 20 year, prison term, consequent to convictions by the High Court for breach of prevention of terrorism laws.
He had appealed to the Court of Appeal seeking to set aside the conviction and the sentence.
The High Court had convicted him for attempting to and for publishing in the North Eastern Herald monthly magazine, articles injurious to the dignity of the State of Sri Lanka, in respect of the war against the LTTE. He was also convicted of having accepted funds from the LTTE.
