Gen. Fonseka still enjoys adequate security – Brig. Nanayakkara
Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara yesterday said that contrary to news reports in weekend newspapers and adverse propaganda carried out by opposition parliamentarians that former Army Commander Gen Sarath Fonseka has not been provided with adequate security, the retired General has retained a security contingent and vehicles more than he is entitled to.
Addressing the media at the Media Centre for National Security Nanayakkara said the former Army Commander enjoys the same security contingent of seven officers and 103 other rankers, and the fleet of vehicles that he was entitled to when he was the Army Chief
"Except for the five women soldiers that he had requested for from the President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge the security contingent and the vehicles have been provided to him. But Gen Fonseka is continuing to enjoy the same security contingent and the number of vehicles he was entitled to when he was the Commander ignoring the fact that he has to return them.
Responding to a question that the Former Army Commander is still facing a threat to his life with a suicide attempt he said the military intelligence is investigating and added that no military officer is entitled for security or any service vehicles once he or she retires.
Asked what action the army plans to take against him if fails to return them Nanayakkara said the Army will take appropriate action but would not say what it would be.
