Case of disposing of pregnant cows for slaughter:
Nine of ten suspects appear in court

KANDY - Nine of the ten persons wanted in connection with the alleged disposing of ten pregnant cows, for slaughter from the Tambuttegama Nirawiya Farm of the Mahaweli Ministry, appeared at the Kandy Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday (25).

Among those who reported to the court on a ‘B’ report filed by the Kandy Division Vice Branch of the Kandy Police Headquarters were two veterinary surgeons and a Farm Manager.

Chief Magistrate Sumudu Premachandra, on an application filed by Police, ordered the suspects to make the relevant statements wanted by the police and appear in Court on December 16.

IP Jayasiri Amarasinghe OIC, Vice Branch and PS Semasinghe prosecuted on the directions of DIG Central Province, Pujith Jayasundara.

Veterinary Surgeon of the Niraviya Farm, Dr. Ms. Geethanjana Samasinghe, Manager of the Farm, Nalaka Senanayake, Kandy Municipal Council’s Veterinary Surgeons, Drs. S. R. Jayasinghe, P. A. A. Perera, Dhammika Bandaranayake R. M. Tennakoon, K. M. Ratnayake, Ajith Kumara and M. M. Siraj appeared in Court.

The suspects were prosecuted under the Cruelty to Animals Ordinance.

Attorneys Nanda Senanayake, Tissa Seneviratne, Nihal Dissanayaka and Wasantha Gunaratne appeared for the suspects.
