Retired General Sarath Fonseka is to address a special UNP Convention, scheduled to be held in Colombo on December 5, party sources said.

They told The Island that the purpose of the Convention, would be to ratify the agreements the UNP had reached with constituent members of the UNF and Fonseka, who will be the Joint Opposition’s ‘Common Candidate’ at the forthcoming Presidential Election.

Meanwhile, some UNP parliamentarians had met Fonseka at his Reid Avenue office, in Colombo yesterday evening. "It was essentially a courtesy call, since many of our MP’s do not know the General well or have not met him. Most of our organizers too are yet to meet him," the sources said.

The UNP Working Committee is scheduled to meet today to discuss the forthcoming Presidential Election, the ‘Common Candidate’ and the strategy that needs to be adopted.
