The UNP has decided to expel Former Colombo Deputy Mayor Azad Sally from its Working Committee, a party spokesman said.

The decision to expel him was taken as a result of his being critical of the decision taken by the Working Committee to support the candidature of Fonseka as the common Opposition candidate at the forthcoming Presidential election, over talk shows on TV channels.

A spokesman for the party said that Sally had violated the party constitution by speaking against a decision taken by the party.

Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe in a letter to Sally had informed him that his services were no longer required by the Working Committee.
