Royal and St. Anthony’s impress on day one

St. Anthony’s College Katugastota and Inter-School League Rugby champions 2009, Royal College, impressed on the opening day of the Carlton Sevens Schools tournament at the Sugathadasa Stadium, on Friday.

The Antonians were in a marauding mood as they demolished Sabaragamuwa Province 55-0 (in Pool B) while Royal College knocked the daylights out of Uva Province (in pool A) to record a 50 points to nil score.

St. Peter’s and Prince of Wales too showed good form and topped their respective groups at the end of the first day, where 12 matches were worked off.

In the Bowl semifinals, Vidyartha and Carey made it to the final after beating Sabaragamuwa (26-14) and Uva Province (32-0) respectively.

Results:

Pool A - Royal College beat Uva Province 50-0, St. Anne’s beat Uva Province 37-5, Royal beat St. Anne’s 34-0

Pool B - St. Anthony’s beat Sabaragamuwa 55-0, Maliyadeva beat Sabaragamuwa Province 26-0, St. Anthony’s beat Maliyadeva 26-7

Pool C - Isipatana beat Nalanda 15-0, Nalanda beat Vidyartha 17-7, Isipatana beat Vidyartha 26-7

Pool D - St. Peter’s beat Carey 48-0, Prince of Wales beat Carey 41-0, St. Peter’s beat Prince of Wales 21-0

Bowl competition - (semi finals):

Carey beat Uva Province 32-0, Vidyartha beat Sabaragamuwa 26-14
