Close on the heels of the UNP-led Opposition reiterating its long standing call for the implementation of the 17th Amendment to the Constitution, President Mahinda Rajapaksa last Thursday (Nov 26) explained why he did not believe in paving the way for the Constitutional Council which would be responsible for setting up of relevant independent commissions, including one in charge of elections.

No, not political stunts!

At a time political stunts are gathering momentum in Sri Lanka, Chris Pfeiffer, the stunt riding world champion performed some incredible feats in Colombo yesterday. The 39-year-old German, with stunting and freeriding as his speciality, holds the world record of long jump (bunny hop) without a ramp over 33 people lying next to one another. He was in Sri Lanka to participate in the Red Bull Street Tour, which held spectators spellbound.
