The Army Seva Vanitha Gala

A fashion show which brought together the top designers in Sri Lanka and a few new and lesser knowns to put on the catwalk a show which had all the trappings of a gala under the patronage of the First Lady Shiranthi Rajapakse as Chief Guest.

The show which went on the catwalk had galaxy of styles and was staged for the Army Seva Vanitha Unit to collect funds for a resort home to be built at an enormous cost for the army members on the disabled list. The response was heart warming with everyone involved in the production from the designers, the models, the technicians, from the set builders which was a fantasy of under water blues with large mock shells lit up from inside to the generous contribution for the cause that came from the Mt. Lavinia Hotel in the Grand Ballroom of which the show was held.

The creations from the designers ranged from the sublime to the fantastic. A Kandyan saree in the elegant and subdued fashion associated with Harris Wijesinghe opened the show, with a single bridal in show stopper style to close the show from Michael Wijesuriya. There were mini collections from Yolande Aluwihare, Eric Suriyasena, Senake de Silva, who was also responsible for putting the show together with Rosanne Dias, and Lou Ching Wong. There were sarees from Gee Bees and bridles from several others among whom was Dora Attanayake and newcomers Dananjaya Bandara, Shalini Siriwardene, and Namal Waas and Dayananda Silva excelling with their fantasy presentations. There was a best dressed chosen which was won by Sharmali Weerasinghe, with Shirani Weeratunge as runner up.

Gracing the occasion was the Army Commander and his wife Manjulika Jayasuriya.
