Fuel adjustment tax in the offing
The 30 per cent fuel adjustment tax, imposed on industrialists last year and deferred till November this year, is to be re-introduced, Ceylon Electricity Board sources said.

When the tax was first imposed last year, the CEB said it was necessary because thermal power generation accounted for about 65 per cent of electricity.

Industrialists protested against the tax when it was first introduced, stating it would increase their VAT charges by a further 30 per cent and industries would face the threat of closure.

The protests made the government to defer the tax till this month.
