UPFA, SLA reject
Fonseka’s claims
The army headquarters
yesterday dismissed former Army Chief Sarath Fonseka’s claim that the
army had been politicized and that the government involved officers in
political activity. A senior spokesman said that this was not true.
Highly placed government sources last evening rejected Fonseka’s claim
that a group of UPFA members were in touch with him. Sources said that
Fonseka had been trapped by a set of political conspirators bent on
destabilizing the country. (SF)
