Pakistan Under-19 open with a win

Pakistan Under-19 opened their Tri-Nation tournament campaign with an easy 68 run victory over Bangladesh Under-19 in the curtain-raiser of the tournament at Pallekele, on Sunday.

After winning toss and deciding to bat first, Pakistan’s two Azams, Babar and Hammad both scored 38 for them to post 211 against a decent bowling attack spearheaded by paceman Abul Hassan, who took five wickets for 50 runs.

In reply, the Pakistani bowlers shared honours to skittle out the opponents who had amassed a mammoth 298 runs against a Sri Lanka squad XI in a practice match on Friday, for 143.

Spinner Usman Qadir, who took three wickets, was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan.

Pakistan Under-19 211 all out in 49.4 overs (Babar Azam 38, Shahzaib Ahmed 33, Hammad Azam 38, Sarmad Bhatti 26, Usman Qadir 27; Abul Hasan 5/50)

Bangladesh Under-19 143 all out in 38.1 overs (Tasamul Haque 28, Mominul Haque 44, Saikat Ali 25; Usman Qadir 3/30)
