

The Peterite tennis team which won the All Island Inter Schools Tennis Championship for the third consecutive year, will tour Malaysia to compete in two international tennis tournaments.
The team will be participating in these tournaments at the invitation of the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM) and the Perlis Tennis Association and the Perlis state government.
The tournaments are to be held from December 5 to 9 and in Langkawvi from Dec. 10 to 14.
The two tournaments that the team will be participating in are the Perlis Milo International tennis tournament and the Geopark Langkawi International tennis tournament.
These two tennis tournaments and the Penang International tennis tournament have been held in Malaysia for more than a decade now. But the Peterites, although they were invited to participate in the Penang tournament as well, was unable to make it for that tournament due to the year end examinations.
Tennis teams from Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Korea and Japan are expected to participate in these two prestigious events. The tournaments will be held at the Perlis Sports Complex in Kanagar and the Langkawi Sports Complex.
The Peterites are expected to face tough competition in both these tournaments. The tournament director for the Perlis tournament is Cheng Joo Chong, a vice president of the LTAM and Sansui Hashim for the Langkawi tournament.
The Peterites, who this year swept the boards at the Inter Schools Tennis tournament by winning the All Island Under-13, 15 and 19 titles, will be sending their Under-13 and Under-15 players for these tournaments. The 12-member squad will leave for Malaysia on December 4.
Representing the Peterites at these two tournaments will be Sri Lanka’s No I player in the Under-12 age category, Chehan Fernando and Sri Lanka’s No I in the Under-14 category, Nadarajah Nishangan. It is also interesting to note that St. Peter’s has also this year produced the No I Sri Lanka player in the Under-16 category, Chintika Shaveen as well as the Junior National champion in the Under-18 category and the No I ranked men’s player in Thangarajah Dineshkanthan.
The rest of the squad: Shashanka Gomez, Sanjeev Mohanakumar, Kalana Wijeratne, Senel Rohana, Udayakumar Dilshanth, Nabeel Sabri, Davishka Ranasinghe, Shanitha Perera, Demintha Fonseka and Ramin Dharmaratne.
