

Kâpitiya coal power plant second stage completed
The second stage of the 300 MW Kerawalapitiya coal power plant has been completed and a further 100 MW of electricity would be added to the national grid from mid January, according to a news release issued by the Ministry of Power and Energy.
Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne, along with CEB officials yesterday visited the power plant at Kerawalapitiya and expressed satisfaction at the progress made in the construction.
This power project is estimated to cost US dollars 300 million.
