

Funds sanctioned for Lankan refugee camps
Friday, Dec 04: SALEM: The Tamil Nadu Government has sanctioned a sum of Rs. 1.38 crore for carrying out various development works in the Sri Lankan refugee camps at Sentharapatti South and East.
Disclosing this at a function at Sentharapatti on Wednesday, Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam said that the Chief Minister had already allotted a sum of Rs. 100 crore for providing basic amenities and other developments to the refugee camps in Tamil Nadu.
He said that when he visited the camps at Sentharapatti, he ordered the immediate replacement of street lights, repair of motors, renovation of toilets and other basic amenities.
These works were carried out on a war-footing.
The Minister said that these works were carried out under the first phase.
Now the State had sanctioned a sum of Rs. 1.38 crore for providing major development works in these camps.
"The work will start soon," he said.
