The Opposition’s common candidate for the forthcoming Presidential election, Sarath Fonseka, returned to the country yesterday morning after a two-day visit to India.

Sources close to Fonseka said that during his visit he had met some Indian leaders and discussed his candidacy. However, the names of the leaders were not disclosed.

Sources said that Fonseka would attend today’s (5) UNP special convention at Welisara, where he would reveal to the party leaders details on his Indian visit. He is also expected to meet all UNF electoral organisers at today’s convention.
