Three women join para-troopers

Three women Para-troopers including an officer successfully completed their basic course for the first time in the history of the Sri Lanka Army and passed out at the passing out parade of the 52nd Basic Parachute Course conducted at Sri Lanka Air Force Base in Uhana, Ampara on Dec. 4.

They are Captain M.N.S Vidhanage of 4th Battalion of Women’s Corps, Corporal Hemanthi R.A.N of 3rd Battalion and Corporal Kapawala K.S of 04th Battalion of the same Regiment.

The course was conducted from Nov. 2, 2009 for one month at Uhana Air Force Base. Thirty nine personnel including 08 officers and 31 other rankers who successfully completed the 52nd Basic Parachute Course passed out. The Chief Guest was Maj. General A.D.G.A Jayawardena, Master General of Ordinance. Senior Army and Air Force officers, other ranks and the next of kin of officers and ORs who passed out were present on the occasion.
