Kilinochchi Hospital reopens

The Kilinochchi District Hospital, which is one of the largest in the North has been reopened by the Northern Provincial Council. The Hospital’s OPD, the maternity ward, the dental and Ayurvedic units have been functioning since December 4.

Governor Northern Province, Major General. G. A. Chandrasiri said yesterday (09) that there were more renovations to be carried out. Despite the renovation work the hospital gets around 100 to 150 patients daily at the OPD. There would be more patients following the completion of the resettlement programme,

he said. The ward and the OPD are manned by five doctors with a staff of two hundred.

The hospital was fully equipped and had been provided with all facilities. However the LTTE, on the verge of defeat had taken away and destroyed valuable equipment and stocks of medicines.

The Governor has assured at the December 4 opening that the hospital would be provided with three buses which would transport patients and hospital staff from Jaffna and Vavuniya. Twenty million rupees will be allocated for further development of the hospital, he stated.
