President seeks AG’s opinion on acquiring Ceylinco Group assets
To grant relief to Golden Key and
other depositors

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday asked Attorney General Mohan Peiris to examine the legal aspects of acquiring Ceylinco assets and properties, even through the enactment of legislation, to grant relief to long-suffering depositors of Golden Key and other finance companies of the crisis-hit group."We are prepared to take meaningful steps to grant redress to thousands of distraught depositors even by taking over the assets of this group", he assured a delegation of depositors.

Fonseka slams ‘despicable abuse of state media’
General Sarath Fonseka, the common opposition candidate at the forthcoming presidential election, yesterday slammed what he called ``government’s abuse of the state media’’ in the run up to the election saying that the administration’s conduct on this score was "despicable."
