Fonseka’s FR case against State media today

A five-judge bench of the Supreme Court will today hear the Fundamental Rights Violation application filed by General (Retd) Sarath Fonseka against three State media institutions.

The petitioner has alleged that the Independent Television Network Limited, the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited have been publishing news bulletins abusive of his presidential candidature.

The petitioner has requested the Supreme Court to direct the Commissioner of Elections to prohibit these institutions from publishing such unfair, biased news bulletin.
