

No slashing of emoluments to families of war heroes
Kandy - Steps have been taken by the authorities against slashing of any emoluments granted to the families of war heroes and the disabled heroes, former Sri Lanka Army media spokesman Major General Sunil Tennakoon told a meeting of members of the Ranaviru families of the Kandy district.
The meeting convened by Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa was held at the Secretariat of the Governor.
The age limit of the children of the fallen war heroes qualified to draw the pension was extended from 18 years to 26 years, the Major General said.
Authorities have taken steps to expedites the establishment of Ranaviru Villages.
He said that the credit of victory of the operations against the LTTE terrorism should not go to a single person, but be shared by a number of stakeholders who sacrificed their lives in the effort.
Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa was praised by Major General Tennakoon for organising the meeting in support of the candidature of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Presidential polls on January 26.
