King Dutugemunu’s name is being marketed in the election campaign by politicians apparently due to the desire to distort history to gain political advantage by doing so or due to sheer ignorance of history.

King Dutugemunu personally led his army against King Elara’s army, engaged in single combat with King Elara, ending with the death of Elara, thus sealing King Dutugemunu’s victory.

King Dutugemunu thereafter erected a tomb for King Elara and ordered that it should be always respected. An example that needs to be cultivated.

Having led the army in battle and overcoming the enemy, King Dutugemunu ruled the country with distinction.

That is history which should not be distorted and cannot be distorted.
