Trishaw driver saves the day

A trishaw driver, who had come across a bundle of GCE Ordinary Level Exam papers, had been able to deliver it with the assistance of police to the Exam center five minutes before the commencement of yesterday’s examination.

The packet had 300 papers and if not for the timely action of the trishaw driver yesterday’s entire History paper would have been cancelled affecting around 500,000 candidates, Exam Commissioner Anura Edirisinghe told The Island.

The trishaw driver had found the packet of exam papers on the wayside about eight kilometers from the Examination Center at Vidyakara Vidyalaya in Ganemulla. After seeing that it had been labelled as property of the Examinations Department, he had handed it over to the Ganemulla Police who checked the details on the label and took action to rush the packet to the exam center.

The Examination official responsible for the mishap has been suspended with immediate effect.
