Southerners want unhindered access to the North

The business community has requested the Government to make arrangements for the people in the South to visit Jaffna without any hindrance in view of a mega business and industrial exhibition scheduled to be held in Jaffna next January.

The business community has pointed out that hardships are caused to travellers as private vehicles are not allowed to proceed to Jaffna beyond the Omanthai check point.

Large crowds of local tourists from South, who want to travel to Jaffna in their own vehicles, are stopped at Omanthai. The disappointed tourists who arrive in Vavuniya then proceed either to Mannar or Trincomale.
