KANDY: Several politicians and the general public staged a massive protest against a statement alleged to have been made by General (retd) Sarath Fonseka to a weekend newspaper disclosing that Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had ordered the shooting of LTTE leaders who came to surrender, It was held at the Dalada Veediaya clock tower junction on Tuesday (22) afternoon.

The demonstration was led by Power Minister Mahindananda Alugamage, who said that the statement made by Sarath Fonseka had betrayed the country and the forces.

The best that they could do in response to that betrayal, was to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s campaign at the Presidential election, Aluthgamage said.
