A man who was allegedly engaged in collecting funds from the public to sponsor a soccer tournament organised by a Colombo Municipal Councillor was apprehended by the public and handed over to the Pettah Police last Thursday.

Suspect Daminda Yapa Athuraliya, a resident of Pathberiya in Panadura had been collecting funds from passers by at St. Sebastian Road, Pettah. When he said that the soccer tournament was orgainsed by MMC Ajantha Liyanage, the people had suspicions about his credence and apprehended him.
